Smile to the camera! Cheese ;D

Who said you cant smile with your teeth when you're wearing braces.
NAH~ I do smile with my teeth all the time.

I remember when I was young, seeing people wearing that wolverine-like-teeth with metals, wires and rubbers was as if seeing a dinosaur walking on the street, I can't help but kept staring at the person till he/she is out of my sight O.O I'm sincerely sorry for doing that as now, I am one of them. Braces, also known as Orthodontic braces rapidly gained its popularity throughout the years, especially when people nowadays are so concern about their looks. Among my circle of friends, 4 out of 10 are currently wearing or once wore braces to correct their bite. Tom Cruise, Katherine Heigl, R&B singer Fantasia and my beloved Yunho oppa from DBSK are some examples of celebrities that wore braces. And you think they are born with perfect teeth? pftt~

As one of the 'club member' I often get a lot questions; normal ones and stupid ones~

FAQ

1. Does it hurt?

Ahhh, duh~ Imagine a piece of wire pulling all your teeth together for consecutive 3 years? Yes, it definitely hurts. No pain, no gain ^^

2. Is it necessary to pull out your teeth?

That varies, it depends on your natural teeth structure and how severely 'messy' they are. For me, I pulled 1 from my lower jaw. Some of my friends pulled 4, some even 5 *ouch*

3. Hurts to kiss you?

See what I mean by stupid questions? Hahaha, I get that a lot! No, it doesn't hurt to kiss your bf/gf~ If you're experienced in kissing, which I suppose most of my readers are, kissing involves your lips and far most, your tongue.. No teeth involve right? Don't worry lah if you're wooing on someone that's wearing braces ;)

4. Cost?

Around RM 3-5k for both upper and lower jaw.

5. How do you brush your teeth?

Exactly like how everyone brushes their teeth, just that we use SPECIAL toothbrushes with shorter bristles in the middle and mini bristles to clean spots where the toothbrush could not reach.

6. Does it change the shape of your jaw/face?

For me it's not much of a change because I only pulled 1 teeth. If you pulled 5 teeth, you might have slight changes in your lower jaw. But basically the changes are not significant. *Case specific* Changes of face shape can be due to other circumstances such weight gain or weight loss. One can definitely argue that wearing braces changes the shape of the lower mouth area, but this is all temporary and once they come off you will be back to normal.

7. How often do you visit the dentist?

Once a month. But towards the end when you're close to getting your braces off, you might have to visit more often for frequent changes of the rubber bands. It is not recommended drag too long between visits as the rubber bands will loose its elasticity.

So those are the questions I commonly get, hope it's helpful for those who are thinking of getting their teeth straighten, or wooing on someone that is wearing braces ;)
